Labor Day, Summer, Gone – Plenty Still To Do

Well, the most dreaded weekend for us summer/beach lovers, Labor Day Weekend, has come and is now pretty much gone. My thoughts have turned from sun and family fun to preparing for the work week ahead. Yuck and more yuck. Two good things:  it’s a short work week and the weather forecast according to Accuweather shows the next two weekends as still beach worthy.  I can’t bring myself to pack away my white pants, skirts and dresses yet, not that I’ll be wearing them again this year, of course.   Just because the official end of summer comes with Labor Day weekend, does not mean that the fun ends at the Jersey Shore. Next weekend is jammed packed with events geared towards families, shoppers, athletes and more!

The are two weekend long events the Asbury Park Oyster Fest in Asbury Park and Skim Bash 2010 at the Sea Bright Municipal Beach.

Here is the flyer for the Asbury Park Oyster Fest and for further details click here.

SkimBash 2010 in Sea Bright, sponsored by Mad Hatter and presented by Skim City and Jersey Shore Skim Camp, is the premiere Pro/Am skimboarding contest on the Jersey shore. Skimboarders of all ages, from beginners to professionals, gather for this annual action-packed 2-day event to show off their skills, and compete for prizes and cash. Fridays in September Asbury Park will have a Beach Bonfire off the Boardwalk. This weeks date is Friday, September 10th and the event is weather permitting 7:00pm, the exact location is TBA but shouldn’t be hard to find. Judging by the forecast as of today, should not be an issue at all. Of course I said that in last week’s post and we had Hurricane Earl threaten  our good times.

On Saturday, September 11, 2010 Jerry Morgan Park will host Long Branch Day from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Events such as Run or Walk A Mile for Long Branch, bocce and horseshoe competitions and other family fun.  Admission is free and the park is located on Liberty Street in Long Branch.

On the same day, the  Atlantic Highlands Historical Society will have their annual flea market 10:00am to 4:00pm. Rain date is September 18th. A large variety of antiques and collectibles, crafts, new and as always the pre-used and hardly used variety of just about anything. For more information on the event click here.

Ocean Grove Giant Fall Flea Market falls on September 11th also so you can shop your heart’s content.  It runs from 9:00am to 4:00pm rain or shine. Over 300 vendors will be selling new, used and antique items as well as a variety of food offerings. Takes place on Ocean Pathway from the Great Auditorium to Boardwalk  in Ocean Grove.

The Danskin Triathlon features a 1/2 Mile Swim, 9.5 Mile Bike and 3.1 Mile Run and takes place at Gateway National Recreation Area on Sandy Hook Sunday, September 12th, 2010 The Race Start is at 7:00am and Transition Opens at 5:15am with First Swim Line Up at 6:45am.

The Comfort Inn Middletown is the closest hotel for the Triathlon event on Sandy Hook, click here to make reservations. See what I mean? Just because summer is over, doesn’t mean the fun is. Come stay with us to take advantage of all the “post season” Jersey Shore fun. Plus Sandy Hook now has free admission until next Memorial Day weekend.
