Summer is slipping away with increasing speed. Pretty soon the fall will be upon us, which after the sweltering summer may be welcomed by many. Just because the kids go back to school and the weather gets a little cooler, by no means does the Jersey Shore shut down. We are having fun right on through the year. Ok, enough about summer ending, let’s talk about enjoying it while it’s still here.
The Jonas Brothers will be playing at PNC Bank Arts center for a two night gig August 16 & 17. The shows start at 7:00pm and will feature Demi Lovato and friends from Camp Rock. On August 19th Crosby, Stills & Nash hit the stage at 8:00pm. KISS comes to the PNC on August 20th at 6:30pm and Creed with Saving Abel and Theft follow them on the 21st.
The Basie is busy this week also. A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor 2010 “Summer Love” Tour. Showcasing the unforgettable humor of its host, Garrison Keillor, America’s foremost humorist, A Prairie Home Companion is a weekly public radio show known for its folk and traditional music guests, tongue-in-cheek radio dramas complete with sound effects, and Keillor’s signature storytelling segment, “News from Lake Wobegon.” The show is on Tuesday, August 17 at the Count Basie Theatre 8:00pm. Later in the week, The Irish Tenors Reunion starring Finbar Wright, Anthony Kearns & Ronan Tynanhit the Basie’s stage. They have recorded 5 PBS specials, and in the US are second only to U2 as the most successful Irish touring act ever. See them perform Thursday, August 19th at 8:00pm.
Bradley Beach is going to be on busy little town Saturday, August 21st. The Annual Bradley Beach 5K Run starts 8:30am at the Gazebo on Ocean and 5th Avenues. Day of race registration runs from 7:00am to 8:15am. There will be a “Secure Belongings Check” on premise to benefit Brianna Cicerelle and gratuities will be accepted. As a runner, I think this is a fantastic idea for both the runners and as a fund-raiser. There’s always stuff you decide you don’t want to run with a coat, water bottle, car keys etc and for a couple bucks going to a good cause you don’t have to. The Bradley Beach Ice Cream Festival will also take place on the same Saturday and place.
The Atlantic Highlands Historical Society is hosting their 38th annual Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday August 21st from 10:00am to 4:00pm with a rain date of Sunday August 22nd. The outdoor event begins at Veterans’ Park on First Avenue and continues on the Avenue. The festival features more than 50 arts and hand crafters, food vendors, children’s activities, a gift auction, musical entertainment, and local business participation.
The Shore Chef Crab Cake Cook Off will be at Monmouth Park on Saturday and Sunday August 21 & 22, 2010. To read more about it see our earlier blog post here.
