It’s Monday again and time to talk about this week’s Jersey Shore events that have fun written all over them. Much like last week we have 5 events that are very different and appeal to traveler’s of all kinds. Here’s a peek at what’s going on.
Remember the last time it rained before yesterday? Yeah, it was a long time ago. The New Jersey Sand Castle Contest in Belmar was canceled due to all of the rain from that mid-week storm. The good news is that it was re-scheduled for Wednesday, July 28th. For more details visit www.njsandcastle.com . The 24 Annual New Jersey Sand Castle Contest in Belmar at the 18th Avenue Beach. The competition is free and open to participants of all ages. Three prize places are awarded in six individual categories:7 and under, 8 to 11, 12 to 15, and 16 and up. Ocean Grove Gardens – Garden Tour will be on July 30th from 10:30am to 4:30pm. Tour the loveliest gardens in Ocean Grove plus the public gardens and urns. Refreshments will be available. On Saturday July 31st you can be part of the inaugural running of the Undy 5000 5K in Long Branch. (This is still cracking me up.) Everyone who participates in the race receives a pair of Undy boxer style shorts to run in, a fun and funny way to raise awareness for a very unfunny disease. This is a family oriented event open to all ages. In addition to the 5K, there will be a family fun run and activities for children. The cost to race is your drawers is $30. Race entry went on sale June 1st. Team registration closes at 5:00pm on Thursday, July 22 and individual on-line registration closes at 5:00pm on July 28th. Looking for something to do after the Undy race? head on down to Ocean Grove for the 8th Annual Boardwalk Art Show, sponsored by the Ocean Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. Featuring 74 artists displaying and selling their work. The entries are judged and vary varied-oil and acrylic paintings, pastels, mixed media, pottery, sculpture, photographs, etchings, paper collages and jewelry. Sunday, August 1 is the biggest race of the year at Monmouth Park. The Izod Haskell Race is the premiere event from the shore’s greatest stretch. Straight from the Monmouth park website are the details:
